How To Apply Compost
We often get asked how to apply compost and how much is needed for certain applications so we created a guide for you below.
For Bedding Plants
⅛” to ⅜” Spread compost on the top soil and mix in, then water.
House Plants
⅛” to ¼” Spread compost on top of the soil and water in. For amazing results do the ⅛” rate and repeat every other week.
Potting Soil
Take potting soil and mix in ¼ to ⅓ by volume to potting soil to make the potting soil a better environment for the roots to live.
Vegetable Gardens
1 ½” to 2” Mix thoroughly with the top 4” to 6” of top soil. It helps to work up the soil first and then add the compost and mix in.
Flower Beds
1” to 2” Mix thoroughly with the top 4” to 6” of top soil. It helps to work up the soil first and then add the compost and mix in.
Seed Beds
¼” to 1¼” Mix thoroughly with the top 4” to 6” of top soil. It helps to work up the soil first and then add the compost and mix in.
Sod Prep
1½”to 2½” Mix thoroughly with the top 4” to 6” of top soil. . It helps to work up the soil first and then add the compost and mix in.
Turf Establishment
½” to 2” Mix with top 3” to 6” of top soil.
Turf Maintenance
⅛” to ⅜” Spread on surface and you can spread a high rate in the Fall or cut the rate in half and spread in the Fall and Spring.
NEVER PLANT DIRECTLY INTO COMPOST – ALWAYS MIX WITH SOMETHING.
